Case study · Mon AI

From consultto note.

Mon AI listens to a consultation and turns it into a structured clinical note — history, examination, impression and plan — then reasons through the case and builds the flashcards a doctor revises from, all from the phone in their pocket.

One assistant, five ways to help

Mon AI records a consultation and, depending on the mode, writes it up as a formal note, reasons through a differential, brainstorms a symptom, offers guidance, or turns the topic into revision flashcards.

It listens, then writes

Voice capture turns a spoken consultation into a structured note — history, examination, investigations, impression and plan — instead of a blank page at the end of the day.

It helps you learn

Learn mode turns any topic into flashcards and quiz questions, graded easy to hard and saved to a revision deck for spaced repetition.

It reasons it out

Resident AI structures a partial consult into history, examination and investigations, a second pair of eyes on the case under time pressure.

02 — The problem

Why do doctors spend more time on notes than patients?

Clinical documentation is the tax on every consultation — and it is where burnout starts. Mon AI is built to take the writing, the reasoning and the revising off the clinician's plate.

The note is the bottleneck — writing up each patient by hand, between patients, is where the day backs up and the detail gets lost. Answer → transcribed and structured live.

Reasoning under time pressure — a differential and a workup have to be recalled fast; an assistant that structures the thinking is a second pair of eyes. Answer → assistant modes that structure the case.

Revision never stops — medicine is a lifetime of exams and updates; turning today's case into tomorrow's flashcards keeps learning attached to real work. Answer → flashcards generated from the case.

03 — Goals & challenges

What Mon AI set out to do

Take the writing, the reasoning and the revising off the clinician's plate — without ever letting the AI run ahead of the doctor.

Goals

Give the day back

  • Turn a spoken consult into a structured note — history, examination, investigations, impression and plan.
  • Reason through a case with assistant modes, not just transcribe it.
  • Generate revision flashcards from the topics a clinician is working on.
  • Keep every note dated, tagged and bookmarked in one place.
Challenges

Why it was hard

  • The clinical structure has to be correct and editable, not a free-text dump.
  • AI behaviour has to be trustworthy under time pressure — a second pair of eyes, not a black box.
  • Voice capture and transcription must hold up in a real consultation.
  • Data-security requirements around clinical records need real work, phased carefully.
04 — Built for

Who is Mon AI built for?

One audience — clinicians — with tools that flex from a senior's scribe to a resident's revision deck.

Gestational diabetes is when the body cannot make enough insulin to meet the increased needs of pregnancy, raising blood sugar. It usually resolves after childbirth but raises the later risk of type 2 diabetes, so it is screened for and managed during pregnancy.

FAQ

Building a clinical AI app

What is Mon AI?
Mon AI is a mobile clinical assistant for doctors and residents. It records a consultation and turns it into a structured note, offers modes that reason through a case, and generates revision flashcards from the topics a clinician is working on — all from the phone.
How does Mon AI turn a consultation into a note?
It captures the consultation by voice, transcribes it, and organises it into a formal clinical structure — history, examination, investigations, impression and plan — that the clinician reviews and edits rather than writing from scratch.
What are the different AI modes?
Mon AI offers five modes: Scribe writes up the full note, Resident AI reasons through a partial consult, Brainstorm explores a symptom, Guidance offers direction, and Learn turns a topic into flashcards and quiz questions. Each is one tap from the home screen.
How long does it take to build a clinical AI app like this?
An app of this depth — voice capture, transcription, structured clinical output, several AI modes and a learning deck — is a multi-month programme rather than a few weeks, because the clinical structure, the AI behaviour and the data-security requirements each need real work. It is best phased so one mode ships and proves out before the rest.
